ILLUSTRATION AT SCALE

As Labelbox's AI platform expanded, so did the volume of editorial content. Rather than designing a custom illustration for every blog post, I created a scalable illustration system that empowered marketers to publish new content independently.

The Challenge

The marketing team was publishing a growing number of product announcements, technical articles, and research updates. Requiring a designer for every blog thumbnail slowed production and made it difficult to maintain visual consistency.

The challenge was to create a flexible system that balanced creative freedom with clear design rules, allowing anyone on the team to produce polished, branded graphics without starting from scratch.

Goals

Reduce design bottlenecks

Create a system that enabled marketing to publish new content without relying on a designer for every asset.

Maintain brand consistency

Establish clear visual rules that kept every illustration recognizable as part of the Labelbox brand.

Scale with the product

Build a framework capable of supporting new products, technologies, and editorial categories as the platform evolved.

Simplify complex topics

Use approachable visual metaphors to make technical AI concepts easier to understand.

The System

Rather than designing individual illustrations, I developed a modular library built around reusable templates, shared visual rules, and category-specific metaphors. Consistent geometry, line weights, gradients, and color palettes ensured every asset felt cohesive while remaining flexible enough to support dozens of different topics.

Marketing teams could quickly assemble new blog graphics using predefined components instead of requesting custom artwork for every article.

Designed for Growth

The system was intentionally built to expand over time. New categories could be introduced without redefining the overall style, allowing the illustration library to evolve alongside Labelbox's growing product portfolio while preserving a consistent visual identity.

Across Every Touchpoint

Although originally created for editorial content, the illustration system became a shared visual resource across product launches, landing pages, social campaigns, presentations, and marketing materials. The same framework ensured a cohesive brand experience regardless of where customers encountered it.

Impact

By shifting from custom illustrations to a reusable design system, the team reduced creative bottlenecks and accelerated content production while maintaining a consistent visual identity. The result was a scalable framework that supported a growing editorial pipeline without sacrificing quality or brand recognition.
